Environmental Chamber
This room allows researchers to vary the temperature and humidity within an
inner room to determine the effects of exercising in a variety of environments.
Hydrostatic Densitometry Laboratory
This room houses an in-floor hydrostatic tank. Underwater weighing is performed
using the tank and the scale with a chair lowered into the water. Hydrostatic
weiging has long been considered the gold standard in the determination of body
consumption.

Dual Emission X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) Laboratory
This room houses a dual emission x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) machine. Using
information from this scan, we assess bone density and body composition.
Clinical Laboratory
This laboratory houses treadmills and cycles for exercise testing as well as
electrocardiograph (ECG) monitoring equipment and a computerized oxygen
consumption testing station.

Metabolic Chamber
This room allows researchers to measure energy expenditure and nutrient
oxidation rates of subjects.
Pulmonary Laboratory
A variety of pulmonary function tests are administered in this room using a
computerized lung function testing station. This laboratory also houses
equipment for muscular flexibility and strength assessment.

Examination Room
In this room, we perform resting 12-lead electrocardiographs (ECGs), skinfold
and girth measurements and measure body weight. This also provides a private
area for physical examination of clients by the physician prior to stress
testing.
Resource Room
This library contains a variety of learning tools for use by students and
clients of the Human Performance Clinical/Research Laboratory.
