Master of Science:
Entry Requirements
|
-Undergraduate GPA > 3.0 ( A GPA less than 3.0 will generally NOT be considered)
-Graduate Record Exam General Test Scores (Competitive GRE scores are typically 500 and above on verbal and quantitative, 4.5 and above on writing)
Prerequisite Course Requirements:
- Statistics
- General Chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Physics
- Physiology/Anatomy
- Basic health/wellness/fitness course
- Exercise Physiology
- Kinesiology or Biomechanics
NOTES:
Statistics must be taken prior to entry into the program for a Fall admission [no exceptions].
It is important to have as many of the other prerequisites completed as possible in order to be a competitive applicant. One or two missing prerequisites may be made up during your program of study. Prerequisite course taken after enrollment in the graduate program will count toward the overall graduate GPA, but NOT toward the graduate degree.
You may fulfill the prerequisite course requirements by taking the courses at any accredited institution of higher education, including a community college.
In addition some courses are available as online distance education courses as described below. These specific online courses are approved by the department and meet our requirements. Any other online course desired to be taken would require our pre-approval.
Physics may be taken online at Colorado Community Colleges through the distance education programs [PHY 105 or PHY 111/112 or PHY 211/212 at: http://www.ccconline.org].
The basic health/wellness/fitness course may be taken online at Colorado State University through the Division of Continuing Education as EXCC 145 Health and Wellness [http://www.learn.colostate.edu].
Biochemistry may be taken online at Colorado State University through the Division of Continuing Education as DCE 7550 Essentials of Biochemistry for Exercise Science [http://www.learn.colostate.edu]. This biochemistry course is a special offering of the Department of Health and Exercise Science for those students applying to, and/or accepted into, our Master of Science program. This is a non-credit course which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of our program and is based on the biochemistry of metabolism and exercise.
