Objectives

  • To promote physical activity in a fun and safe environment
  • To promote lifelong activity and a healthy approach to childhood obesity prevention
  • To challenge each child to improve his or her own level of performance

Mission Statement

Through innovative programming and the use of active learning practices focusing on obesity prevention, lifelong fitness, and skill development, the Youth Sport Camps support the educational and public service mission of the Department of Health and Exercise Science and Colorado State University. We provide hands-on experience and research opportunities for CSU students and staff while promoting the benefits of physical activity and health lifestyles for youth in the community.

To help us meet our goal of decreasing the prevalence of childhood obesity and inactive lifestyles, we aspire to develop a working model of summer camp programming that focuses on these two issues. We will offer new and exciting programming that features up-to-date information and activities on lifetime fitness and wellness. We also plan to collect data from volunteer campers regarding their physical activity levels and nutritional habits to help us gage the effectiveness of our changes.

Overview

The Youth Sport Camps are an eleven-week day-camp program of sports activities. The 2009 camp season begins on Monday, June 1 and ends on Friday, August 14. Camps run from 9am - 4pm Monday-Friday. One-week sessions are offered in baseball, basketball, inline hockey, soccer, softball, field sports, and volleyball. In addition, we feature our FunLIFE (Learning to Improve Fitness and Eating) camp again this year, which combines sports and physical activity with healthy lessons and curriculum. This summer, we have also added Music and Movement, which combines aerobic dance, rhythms, and martial arts movement with music. As always, we will be featuring our Super Sport Camp, which is a traditional day-camp program that is offered in two-week sessions. The Super Sport Camp includes a focus activity (basketball/volleyball, soccer, baseball/softball, team/field sports, and track and field), plus group activities, swim lessons, and field trips.

The Youth Sport Camps program is an approved child care activity. Camp tuition is deductible for certain child care flexible spending accounts. Contact your spending account program administrator for more information.

Due to various large construction projects at the university, we still do not have tennis courts, and we will do our best to have them back in 2010. Tennis camps, therefore, will be suspended for the 2009 season. We apologize for the situation.

There are three ways to register for any YSC camp:
